After studying law at the University of Fribourg, Olivier Rivoire was admitted to the Geneva Bar in 2003. In 2006-2007, he completed an LL.M. General Studies at Georgetown University in Washington D.C. (USA).
From 2003 to 2012, he worked for law firms in Geneva and Zurich, mainly in the fields of business law, bankruptcy law and civil and commercial litigation.
In 2012, he joined the authorizations section of FINMA’s banking division in Berne. In particular, he dealt with new banking authorizations, mergers and transfers of banking institutions, as well as governance issues within these institutions. He regularly collaborated with FINMA’s various departments, particularly Enforcement.
From 2014 to 2019, he worked in the legal department of two Swiss banks operating in Switzerland and internationally. His responsibilities included regulatory projects, drafting banking documents, estates, employment law and litigation.
Since 2019, he has been a partner in “Bory & Associés Avocats”, which became “1204 Legal Conseils & Tax” in 2023.
Attentive to his clients’ needs, pragmatic and determined, he advises and represents in court both individuals and companies, including startups some of which are active in the ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) fields, as well as non-governmental organizations, established both in Switzerland and abroad.
Drawing on his experience as an in-house lawyer and attorney-at-law, Olivier Rivoire’s main areas of expertise include: regulatory advice to financial intermediaries (particularly banks and wealth managers), corporate law (in particular: company formation and liquidation, drafting of shareholder agreements, legal support in financing start-ups, debt collection, enforcement in Switzerland of foreign judgments and arbitration awards, and contract law), immigration law, inheritance law and dispute resolution (judicial, mediation and arbitration).
In the field of mediation, he has been certified since 2020 by the Swiss Federal Department of Finance as a financial mediator within the meaning of the Financial Services Act, FinSA. In 2021, he received the title of Mediator from the Swiss Bar Association.
Olivier Rivoire is the exclusive member in Switzerland of the international network IR Global for the following areas: Banking & Finance and Immigration Law.
He is a member of the Swiss Bar Association and the Geneva Bar Association.
